Q: Just wondering, if I wanted to scan a picture on a fridge magnet with my printer/scanner, would that be a bad decision? Consequences?
A: Nah, it's fine to scan something magnetic. See, the scanner digitally captures the item with a CCD sensor much like that in a digital camera. Really, there shouldn't be aanything in either a printer, scanner, or MFC combo therof that would mind the feeble magnetism of a common kitchen magnet. As an aside, those things are so feeble that teachers used to get away at my school with sticking them on their biege computer cases and ocasionally even their amber or green computer monitors (if they had a metalic chassis component). Nothing ill happened, though I'd advise you not to try this yourself.
