Read the list of upgrade-qualifying software carefully: MS Works is often one, and may have come on your machine. Now, if you have files tied up in the new Word format but don't want to buy Word 2007 and have access to an older version, Microsoft offers a free Compatibility Pack that lets earlier versions access the files.
