Q: well reason for my question is I'm a caregiver who lives with a family and they just bought a phone scanner (i don't know why) and the 8 yr old accidentally said "oh hey mom how's the phone scanner works" I was there so the mom said sweety it's for the computer not phone but I know how a phone scanner looks like but i dont know why they got it , it makes me kinda nerves just to think they will listen to my conversations ... my other Question is will they be able to listen to my conversations on google talk ? I mean a call from PC to PC ? help I'm freaking out , I cannot stand to think they listen to what me and my boyfriend are saying ....:(
A: From what I can surmise, a phone scanner picks up wireless waves from a cordless handset to the docking station. It's just like using a police scanner. If you're on a hard line, or through the computer, google talk, skype, YIM, whatever, the scanner shouldn't be able to pick it up. Funny thing is, it might even be able to pick up your neighbor's phone calls, which can be fun every once in a while. Just try not to stare at the neighbors after a strange phone call, lol.
