Q: I have an hp psc 1310 series printer and scanner combo, and I've made sure everything needed for it is completley reinstalled. I've had it for a year and had no problems for a while, before it began to refuse printing. I reinstalled the program and it prints fine now, but when I open the scanning prgram the computer states that the printer can not be detected. However, I've made sure everythign is properly connected. Could the USB cable be dammaged, or could my printer be faulty?
A: If your 1310 prints okay every time, but it fails to detect the 'scanner' when you call it, I would guess you have a defective component in the PSC1310 itself. Your USB cable is fine if the print function works okay. I had a similar situation with a multifunction printer/fax/scanner recently. It would print fine and scan fine, but would not send or receive faxes. Bear in mind that if you buy a printer only for $300 or a multifunction device for $300, the individual components for the multifunction will be more cheaply made.
