Scanner not working - says it's not connected, but the printer option on it works??

Q: I just got a new scanner/printer - It's an Epson CX7400. The printer works, and it will even copy/print a picture...but the actual scanning to the computer feature won't work? It tells me that it's not connected...unplug the USB blah blah. I've already done that. And really, it IS connected if the other options work through the same USB cord? What could I be missing here? The website support doesn't tell me anything helpful...it tells me to unplug the USB and then turn it off and on again. I've done that and still doesn't work. Any ideas?

A: A couple of options: 1. The drivers didn't install correctly. 2. It's broke and you need to take it back. Other than the unplugging trick about all you can do is try completely unistalling all of the software that came with the printer and downloading the latest version from the Epson website. If that doesn't work then it was probably damaged in shipping to the retailer and you'd be best to just take it back for an exchange.
