Q: My Brother multifunction 5460CN device works just fine as a network printer, and I've used it to make copies. For the first time I tried scanning with it, and it won't scan. Every other utility it's come with reports a good connection to the device - my PC can see it, I get reports on ink levels, I can print, and so on. But every time I try to scan, it just hangs and says "Can't connect to scanner." It fails both ways - from the device if I hit the Scan button, it just saying "Connecting to PC" and sits there. So there's got to be some network-level configuration option that applies only to scanning that I am missing. I've reset both devices multiple times, tried changing IPs, the whole nine yards. I'm stumped that everyting except scanning works. There's no firewall running on the PC itself. I can't find anything in the router to configure, though if somebody's got a logical guess for a port to forward (and whether to forward it from PC to scanner or vice versa), I'm all ears.
A: What program are you using Control center , paperport, scanner and camara , etc,< try this : disable ALL firewalls on pc .On the Brother machine , press MENU 5,2,1 and write down the ip address of the machine , then to the pc and click start/ control panel and then select scanners and cameras. In the list the machine should be there if not reinstall it. IF the machine is in the list right click on the icon and LEFT click on properties. Click on the NETWORK tab, and select Specify by ip address , and enter the machine ip address and ok . it should scan for you if not it could be a driver issue , call us 877-Brother. ..
