HP scanjet 5550c gives me an error message when i try and scan using the buttons on the scanner?

Q: Error: : "There was an error communicating with the scanning device. Plase Ensure that it is connected properly and try again." I tried installing that update for errors with buttons on the hp website but that didnt work. i also tried uninstalling the device ( from device manager & Add/Remove Programs). i tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers. still doesnt work. Is this product just crap or am i missing something????? Please help. serious answers only!!!....Thanks

A: scanners have 2 drivers, a resource and a twain...uninstall both reboot, the reinstall in the correct order...call hp support too...
