I need a scanner that has a high dpi but I don't know what qualifies?!?

Q: I'm trying to scan in my wedding pictures and they're coming out horribly! Right now I have a lexmark x5150 but I don't know what the dpi is on it. I'm not planning on printing the pictures out I might just do one of those photobooks and just upload the pictures to snapfish.

A: Resolution Optical: 600 x 2400 dpi Enhanced: Up to 19,200 dpi Method CCD Flatbed Document Size Maximum: 8.5 x 11.7 inches (216 x 292 mm) It has a high resolution. You should scan for what your needs are. You may blowing the rez too high which can get an ugly picture. Try scanning at the 8x10 or 300 dpi. See what that gets. the try 150 dpi or 4x5. and see what it looks like. Look at the settings on the scanner. Check the sharpening, see that it is turned off. Turn any auto correction off and see what you get with a straight scan. It could be the content you are scanning. If you are scanning newspaper your results will be less than if you are scanning a nice picture. It depends on the paper the print is on. There are a lot of things to think about and it all depends on what you are doing. Experiement. There are scanning books that can help as well. http://www.scantips.com/ this can help.. Good luck.
