Help With Scanning/Power Point Document?

Q: Hello all, I was wondering if anyone could help me out on a problem I am having with scanning/editing a document. I have a A4 black and white text document that I want scanned via my HP scanner, but once its been scanned I want to take out a few sections of the document, and save them separatly on file. I know I can scan the document to Paint, and select/cut the parts I want to save, but the quality looks bad through MS Paint. I would prefer to use PowerPoint or something simlar, but when I save the scan to PP I cant seem to cut/select a certain section . Would anyone out there know what I could do to select the various parts of the scan I want to save. Thanks for looking...

A: You don't say what format file you are generating from your scanner but let's assume that it's a .JPG. There's a very good image displaying tool called Irfanview that also has basic image manipulation facilities. It's a free download from http://www.irfanview.net/ Alternatively, if your HP scanner works the same as mine then you can select which part of the page image you want to save. Having done the initial scan, just click on the image and drag the box to the size/position that you want to scan. You can then select 'save image as' and enter the file name and file type
