Scanning without ink ?

Q: I have a BROTHER MFC 240 C It does not allow scanning without ink, which is so funny...does this mean it uses ink when I scan anything??

A: No the scanner does not use ink, but the multifunction printers often are set to stop all functions when you run out of ink to prevent people from running them dry and damaging the printer, as well as preventing us from getting bad print results that of course we would blame on the the printer, not our own failure to follow up. Which is correct even for the copier, but the scanner only side does seem extreme behavior control. Hope this helps the question, if not change it.
