A: When a document is scanned it is saved in the form of an image file - similar to what you get from a digital camera. These files can not be directly edited in Microsoft Word. It (the scanned image) must first be converted back to a text document. Software to do this conversion is called OCR software (Optical Character Recognition). The most popular retail program is OmniPage Professional but it is fairly expensive at $500.00. There are other software options out there but OmniPage is the only one I have experience using. If it's only one page of text it will definitely be more cost and time effective to simply re-type the document manually.
