Q: Just received a bearcat 5 desktop scanner.no digital #s onlyswitches numbered 1-8,a volume dial,and squelch dial.Need help in finding a manual,or some1 to help in how to program....Thank you
A: You need to put "crystals" in it for each frequency you want to recieve, that is only an 8 channel, by the time you buy crystals(assuming you can find them an 4-6$ each) for a few bucks more you can get any of a number of 100 channel digital programmable scanners, you likely have dozens and dozens of frequencies right near you That scanner won't get anything in the 800 band and UHF 440-512 mhz who knows? Pick your state / county at the link below to see the basics of what is around you Edit If yours is the one in the second link below..it will not get UHF either, only VHF or 30-50 MHZ and 140-160MHZ +or- a few MHZ If you open it up you will see a row of crystals they are silver tin color about a half inch square and a eighth of an inck thick, they just plug in, there will be numbers stamped on them like 155.415mhz, 42.580mhz or near those frequencies, those are in the VHF bands
