Q: I need a OCR so i can transfer things from my scanner to microsoft word so where can i download one for free.
A: Many scanners come with OCR software. Even my basic Canon (or HP did). Look on the product CD. If you have an HP scanner, you can download some free software in addition to what is on the product CD. (My HP AIO came with IRIS). A search on PCMAG.COM (PC magazine) revealed the free simpleocr product. Read the review and give it a try. Really accurate and fast OCR products with workflow tools (OmniPage) cost a few hundred $$. Depends on how much OCR work you have. Some people criticize Word and other MS Office products without giving a good reason why it is so "bad.". If you already have Word and know how to use it, there is no need to experiment, unless you love experimenting.
