Is there a scanner device available that can scan text and has a built-in printer so you don't need to hook it

Q: up to a computer and / or printer. A stand alone device that maybe keeps a roll of paper in it and prints off what you manually scan from a book.?

A: If you are looking to just "copy" a page (or pages) from a book and have a print-out of it, MOST "all-in-one" printers will do this. You can get them for as little as maybe $60-$70 USD (for a real inexpensive one). You just have to make sure that whatever brand you look at has the ability to: "print/scan/COPY" -- because the 'copy' part is the one that doesn't have to be hooked up to the computer to make a copy of a book page, etc. Here's a couple of links to pages to view the options out there: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/can.do;HHOJSID=2vwVH43BNJNVc02nrdBVg2pdGWGCWLh8RGLntQlf66hSQtNCn3C5!-485229147?landing=printer&category=all-in-one&catLevel=1&storeName=storefronts http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/ProductCategory.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=-8182 http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ProductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=116 Good Luck!
