Why does the LCD display the message NO CARTRIDGE even though I installed all the ink cartridges?

Q: Brother printer

A: Hopefully you don't have a bad print head here. Brother printers automatically clean themselves on start up. So my suggestion is this: If you take the Brother ink cartridges (mine is a 5840CN) and tip them sideways so the ink rests on the "window" side (which the machine views to know how much is left). Hold it there for a few seconds and then install the cartridge and close the machine quickly it will SOMETIMES be tricked into thinking the cartridge is full. But only sometimes. Sometimes shaking the cartridge a bit (so the ink is full of bubbles) works, but I don't like that method in case it gets air into the print head. And again, it doesn't work all the time.
