My printer isn't working?

Q: I just installed it onto this computer ,if worked fine on the computer it was on before, now every time I try to print something I get a standard error message that says, which ever program Im using to print with, has encountered an error and needs to close and does so interrupting whatever it was that I was doing. I've tried it with several different programs, and items to print, encountering the same problem every time, what do I do? I tried putting in the disk and it didn't work, it just gave me the option of adding a different printer. The printer will print align cartridge papers, but nothing else not even the test pages. It gets the same error. The printer is a HP Deskjet D2530.

A: Did you install the drivers for the printer? Alright, lets do this, In Windows XP go to Start- Control Panel- Printer and Faxes. On there right click on all the printers and press delete, to remove all of these. To be sure, go to your "My Computer" Icon and right click it. Then choose Properties- Hardware- Device Manager, look for Printers and uninstall it from that list. After that restart your computer. Then disconnect your printer USB cable from the computer. (Disconnect it when the computer is off, doing it when it is on may cause damage both to the computer and printer or either). Then, go to this link: http://www.siliconguide.com/drivers/device/489/ to download the driver of your printer, corresponding to your operating system. After download, put it on your desktop or put everything in a folder on your desktop. Turn your computer off. Now, connect your printer's usb cable to your computer. Turn on your computer. When you turn it on you'll get something like New Hardware Found. After that click cancel. It might have already detected the Printer, but we want to get to your desktop.Find the folder and click the setup or the .exe file of the download and follow the instructions. Now, it should work. Please let me know if it didn't work. Did you have your printer on XP, before, and now you've installed it on Vista?
