Problem setting up new printer - Lexmark

Q: I purchased a new Lexmark 1380 printer and have spent 3 days with the telephone support line to no avail. Therefore I uninstalled everything to do with the printer and started to reinstal it again following the instructions. when I plugged in the new printer to my usb port a message came up which read - A problem occurred during hardware installation. Your new hardware might not work properly. Does anyone know what I should do now or how to solve this to get my printer working. I would like to add that is has nothing to do with My Antivirus software either as we have already gone down this route and reinstalling and uninstalling and resetting configurations etc. Have installed proper drivers, have checked different usb ports, have switched on printer before installing. My computer is E-Systme with Windows XP I have solved the problem it all boiled down to my McAfee virsu wear. Even though I had disabled it, it continued to block it therefore I had to look at what events had been blocked today and allow them and then the printer worked.

A: Have you checked your Anti-virus logs. Sometimes Anti-virus programs block new drivers from being installed. MCAfee is the worst for blocking new printer driver installations. At work we disable the Anti-virus before installing and setting up new systems. Once all programs are installed and before the user getts the system we re-enable the Anti-virus.
