hi everyone, i've got a problem with my new laptop and old printer?

Q: its a new Advent laptop pre-installed with windows vista home premium. i was hoping to run my old hp deskjet f380 (2006 model) printer using a usb cable. i tried installing the software however and error message came up stating that i would need windows xp/98/version 7 etc. In windows vista network options it does provide an option to connect any printer using a usb cable and windows would 'recognise' the printer - again this didnt work. all that happens is a message appears 'printing in progress' . I've also tried the hp website but couldn't make heads or tails of it- please help.

A: First uninstall any of the drivers that you installed with the disk. Do this by right clicking on Computer, selecting properites and hardware manager. Find your printer, double click on it and uninstall the driver. If you loaded any other programs uninstall them too. Now, unplug the printer usb cable and reboot your computer. Next go here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2093&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1128296&lang=enand download the package and install it. Alsoo on the top of the page it has a button to check if your drivers are correct, you might want to try this before you unisntall the drivers. It might tell you to plug in your printer, if it doesnt, when it finishes plug in your printer. It should detect it and have the right drivers installed. This should work, good luck.
