My dell 924 all-in-one refilled ink cartridge does not work. It says remove tape for alignment and I did? Help

Q: I replaced the cartridge for the color ink, which was refilled and it worked, but I can not get my black refilled ink to work. I went to the store 3 times to exchange the ink, but when I put the ink in, it says that there was an alignment error and to remove the tape, which I already did? What should I do? Is the printer messed up now because I used refillable ink??

A: If you try to refill an ink cartridge yourself, you will have to allow the computer to recognize that the cartridge has been refilled. A copper contact on the back of the cartridge has a series of seperate contacts that measure the ink level inside the cartridge. There are about 7 different methods that are available to reset the cartridge, however, only one will work with your cartridge. Your cartridge refill manual will tell you the proper method of placing clear tape on the contacts in order to reset the cartridge. If you are unsuccessful, the printer will still print normally without the cartridge being reset or the cartridges being aligned.
