Q: It won't print unless both are installed (along with all the other color cartridges). My HP printer only has one black ink cartridge
A: I have the canon R1800 and it takes two black cartridges because one is Matte Black and one is Photo Black. They work with different levels of dark and luminosity that needs to be in the printed image.
