i am using a generic ink and when i print photos my whites are getting a green tint on my brother mfc665cw pri

Q: any suggestions all the other colors look ok, thanks

A: White is just a function of the paper... There is no white ink, so the printer should not be putting any ink in a "white" area. I'm not familiar with the brother printers. Are the print heads part of the cartridge, or are they just ink? If the print head is integrated with with cartridge, the cartridge could be defective, if it is just ink, without the print head attached then it's the printer (or your original picture) that is to blame and not the generic cartridges. (You can tell if the print head is part of the cartridge, if there is a "metalic" flat area on the BOTTOM of the cartridge where you have to remove a pice of tape from it before installing it in the printer.)
