Q: l have windows xp, and a canon imageclass mpc 190 printer, the wizard wont detect the printer at all but the printer is in hardware and apparently working , l downloaded drivers from canon site, l am thinking l am not using the right port, as it is a usb port, however my last printer was also, should l use that port? or in set up a new printer have it as a generic printer and which one? any help would be gratefully recieved as driving me insane and kids need printer for school work I have deleted the old printer, when l go to add printer, it is not recognised, so thats why l thought maybe put it under generic, yes its recognised in hardware device,
A: 1. When you go into Start | Printers and Faxes| Is the printer listed that there? If so then the drivers should be installed. If there a multiple copies of it that will cause a problem. 2. If there is only 1 listed and you right mouse click on it and then click on properties | Test page does it print the Test page? 3. When you say it is in the "hardware" do you mean the "Device manager" under the "hardware tab" in the System properties. I will watch for additional details and update then.
