Q: I have a Lexmark printer a X1180,it will take the 16 or 17 and 26 or 27 sizes ink.I refill the cartridges regularly and yet recently i had problem with the colour cartridge. After refilling it would not print at all, there was no air in it or anything and the heads were good.I had refilled it many times without problem. So i had to buy a new colour ink which was a cheap refill in itself, but it worked fine. The whole of this time my black was working will even after refills. So now its all working good apart from the ink level indicator for the colour side shows nothing in it,even though its full and works great. So i have read about these chips Lexmark put in the ink,are they putting them in the sizes i have mentioned??and will it affect my X1180 or was it made after the did all this stuff with the chips in the ink. Also where are the chips on the ink?I cant see them. Can someone please explain in a little detail,im confused and need to know for future refilling. Thanks in advance,Paul.
A: Hi, I also refil my 16/17 and 26/17 cartridges, after a certain number of refils though it will just stop working, you can't keep refilling them forver unfortunately. I don't think those kinda cartridges have chips, I know Epson ones do have chips which recognise ink levels, which mean you have to refil them and use a device to reset the chip so the cartridge will work again. the 16/17 and 26/17 ones aren't like that. Whenever I put a refilled one into my printer on the computer it always comes up with 'ink level not recognised' so I can never tell how much ink is left but its pretty obvious when its run out.
