Printer problems?

Q: i have intel imac but i cannot connect my Samsung Scx 4521F printer. it says my toner is low, but do i really need to get another one? how can i see toner level? i cannot decide which driver to use? whats a driver? thank you for answering

A: Seems not a computer geek, huh? Never mind.. There's nothing to worry. I am willing to explain. A driver is a file that a hardware like printers, cd-rom, or a processor is using to communicate in and between the computer's operating system like Windows XP. For example, A user is printing a document. Once the user commands the computer to print the document, the computer's operating software (OS) tries to find the driver, then if it's found it will try to communicate with the driver and the driver will also try to communicate with the hardware which in this case is a printer. If the operation is successful, the printer will print the desired document that the user is directed. On the other hand, it is not needed to decide which driver will be used. For every hardware there is a sole driver and mostly not compatible with other machines. Do you have the supplied CD-ROM of your printer? If yes then try to insert it and a popup window will be shown and try to find and click install. If not, then go to the samsung website and try to find its driver. Take note of your printer model and OS type (example: Windows XP, WIndows Vista, etc.) that your computer is installed to and type it on the search box of samsung website. After you've just installed the driver and it still says that the toner is low, try to replace it and try to print again. Hope this helps. PS. Please turn off the printer ang unplug all of its connecting cables from and to the computer before proceeding to driver install. Only plug it in if either it is told to do so or the installation is successful.
