canon pixma ip1600 not regonizing new ink?

Q: It's not a refilled ink cartridge, it's a brand new one, and it's not regonizing it, it's still giving me the "ink is low" msg.... what do i do? thanks oh and i got the correct ink for the printer, so i know that's not the problem

A: You may have a bad chip or chips but there is one last resort prior to returning the cartridges. Put the old empty cartridge(s) back in. Power off the printer. Power it back on again. Let it complete the initialization process. Replace the cartridges, then see if the printer can initialize them. Run a head cleaning and you should be good to go. If not, you're experiencing a common problem with the iP1600 printer where the chips get corrupted and the printer can't read them. The only resolution might be to exchange them for another set if you can... once they've been opened, few retailers will exchange them.
