Q: i have a lexmark printer... it has a color cartridge that is out but it has a brand new black cartridge... but i cant get it to pront.. when i go to print preferances the ability to select if i want it to print in color or black and white is grayed out.. it is permanantly selected on color... how can i switch it to black and white
A: Try uninstalling your printer and let your printer selected based on what it determines----which will probably be that only black is available. It may enable you to print. At present it may be that your printer will only use color and black due to your previous setup or settiings. It wants you to put color in and has disable the use of black only as a option to lack of color. Some printers will create black when there is an absense of black from the three primary colors of cyan,magenta,and yellow.
