Q: 1. Color would be nice but may not be neccessary 2. I will use a mac for everything until I get AutoCad 3. I would like to be able to print 11x17 plans (probably autocad) 4. Price is an issue as well as print and maintainance costs ( I am a student) 5. Are the printers under $500 any good? What are the drawbacks? Yahoo answers has several questions about this already but they all seemed to be more than 6 months old. In my opinion thats out of date for a technology question. Thanks in advance :-)
A: You have a couple options. Here are your options from HP http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/can.do?storeName=storefronts&landing=printer&category=HP&orderflow=1&a1=Format&v1=Wide&a2=Type&v2=inkjet&catLevel=3#bcAnchor As for Canon, Look at the Pixma Pro 9000. They all do wide format in color. To get a Black only wide-format, it is above your price range. Keeping your cost low, look at individual cartridges if you want to do color, but all of them are reasonable. No one fixes printers anymore, so if it does break, hopefully it is before the warranty is up. I like the Canon Pro 9000, HP OfficeJet Pro K850 and the HP Photosmart Pro series.
