Q: Desktop XP had color laser printer working fine. Hooked up via USB. One day quit working. Tech: re-set NIC card in printer, hooked it up via ETHERNET connection on a network and printer worked fine. Get printer home, install drivers, hook up printer via USB, same problem, doesn't work. Can i hook the printer up to my Wireless Router via Ethernet and get this to work? Router is D-Link with 5 available ports for Ethernet Hookup. I attempted to hook printer up directly to desktop via Ethernet but I guess I'm not good at configuring to make that work.
A: Yes, you can hook it up to your router. You may have to change the IP, Subnet, and Gateway settings on the printer to match your home network. Look through the settings menu on the printer (provided the printer has a control panel to access the settings menu) Use this walk through to find your ip address, subnet mask, and default gateway. http://kb.iu.edu/data/ahse.html Simply copy the subnet mask and default gateway numbers over to the printer. Copy the first threee sections of the IP address to the printer. Change the value of the last section to a number between 1-254. Make sure that the ip address you enter does not match the gateway ip, or your computers ip. Use this link to connect to the printer. http://www-jerry.oit.duke.edu/community/howto/pc/add_tcpip_printer.html Hope i've helped!
