Q: I have just bought a ibook g3 off ebay for AUD$350 (I know its expensive) and I can't download any apps. The guy that i bought it off told me that he had loaded mac office onto it but all I have to do is to set it up. I am currently running OS X 10.2.4 and whenever I go to set up office all it says is that I have to upgrade to OS X 10.2.8. So my friend comes over to upgrade it but I can't do it because I need a password/phrase. When I confront the seller of the mac all he says is that he had to no put no password in the computer when he got it. If anyone knows how to change the password or any helpful info that would be great.
A: First of all, have you tried just hitting enter on a blank password? If one has never been entered, it may be literally blank. Second, do you have the original install disks for the machine? If you do, then you can boot the machine from the install disks (hold down "C" as the machine boots up) and one of the top menu options on the installer will be Utilities - select Reset Password and you can choose a new password. Now as for that MS Office -- unless he sold you the disks and serial number, that software is pirated in any case. (no Alex - you do NOT have to wipe the disk to change the password... )
