Q: The letter "i" does not show up when i press it. i have to cut and paste and it's very cumbersome when i am typing an essay for school. i don't know how it happened because i was not working w/ keyboard shortcuts or doing anything different. i used one shortcut on word, alt + some number for a symbol, do you think that's why? Someone said to go to System->Preferences->Keyboard->Layouts tab but i do not know how to do that. Very computer-illiterate, sorry. Please help, thanks. iiiiiiiiii YAY!!! Thank you
A: Keyboards are mechanical devices - they wear out. Eventually you have to replace them. It has nothing to do with using alt-key combinations. If it did, none of my keyboards would work, and the layout wouldn't change by itself - if you don't know how to get there, you never got there to change it. Go to a computer store and get a keyboard. You can get cheap ones (under $20) and you can get expensive ones - the cheap ones work just as well. Feel how the keys go down and get one you're comfortable with - that's what's important.
