Q: What is the difference between CPU temp and HD temp? Well i just got a new software for my laptop and it tells me two different temperatures the first is the CPU temp which right now is at 48C the other is the HD temp which is at 30C what is the difference between them and which one do i need to worry about more.
A: CPU is the processor, see link for acceptable temps for both AMD and Intel. http://www.heatsink-guide.com/content.php?content=maxtemp.shtml HD is the Hard Drive, 43C is about normal and most drives are rated ok up to 55c. Once you know the manufacturer of your hard drive, go to the website and get the specs from there, they will provide you with operating temps. Example of Seagate Barracuda: http://www.seagate.com/docs/pdf/datasheet/disc/ds_barracuda_es.pdf You'll probably want to read up on S.M.A.R.T. which stands for Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology.
