A: The fastest processor in the home market right now is the: Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9775 Quad Core Processor LGA771 Yorkfield 3.2GHZ 1600FSB 12MB 45NM It retails for about $ 1700.00...ouch. Nobody buys it because it is way too expensive and nobody needs that type of power yet at this time. Look at the size of its L2 cache...12 MB !!! that is nuts. It has the newest 45 nanometer circuitry in it too !! It runs at a screeming 3.20 Ghz with a FSB of 1600 Mhz !!! that is way nuts lol I would suggest though a Q6600 Quad core processor for about $ 220.00 or if you want a faster FSB type processor and with the newest 45 nm architecture I would buy what I just purchased...the Q9300 processor from Intel for about $ 270.00. These seem to be the best bang for the buck type of processors that won't break your wallet apart and will give you way more power than you need right now. They will last you for at least the next two years. Best wishes
