Q: Can some one help me out in here.. -how to share the memory of video card to RAM memory? and how to disable the sharing? By the way Im using an old model computer, its PC100 type. -what card or whatever, that is insert at the ISA slot? -what is a PC card? -can a windows98 2nd Edition handle a USB? Was it compatible? and what is the minimum requirement of Video Card memory for WindowsME?
A: Ummm, I don't know how to enable sharing of the video card memory and the RAM. That's some pretty tricky stuff. It could be in your BIOS, but judging from your other questions, I would not recommend you change those settings without knowing exactly what to do. You can mess your computer up pretty badly if you make a mistake. As far as what goes into the ISA slot...I don't think they even make ISA cards anymore. That technology was replaced by PCI years ago, you might be stuck until you eventually upgrade to a newer machine. A PC card is a chip that fits into a socket on your motherboard (the main board in the case). These cards do a variety of specific tasks, from producing sound (sound cards), to running your monitor (video cards), to connecting to the internet (network interface cards). You can buy tons of them, but you have to make sure your computer has a free slot available, and that it is compatible with your specific model. Win 98 can indeed handle USB. It should be located at the front of your case, it will be a rectangular port about half an inch wide. You can stick flash drives into them and store media or files. The min reqs for win ME are that your video output be VGA or higher. Check your monitor cable. if you have three rows of 5 pins, each offset from the next, you have a VGA cable and you should be fine. If you only have 9 pins, you have a serial connection, and it will not work. Oh, and compatible means that either the hardware design matches the slot on the computer, or that there are programs written to make your hardware work properly with the rest of your computer. An example would be trying to plug a 3 pronged power cord into a 2 holed wall outlet. they are not compatible, and thus, will not work. **EDIT** The user above me stated that ISA = video card. This is not true. ISA was never intended to run video cards, that's why they made AGP slots.
