Q: I just put an SD memory card into the USB slot in my iMac. Nothing happened. On an XP, I would go to my computer and then click on USB device or whatever to open it, but on an iMac I have no idea what to do. How do I open up the SD memory car and view the files so that I can load something onto it? Thanks!
A: The Mac computers don't have SD card slots. Instead it uses firewire which is much faster and a lot more efficiently. If you are working with Photo's, I would highly recommend going to the Mac OSX OS and using firewire to transfer everything. You can still access those pictures from the XP OS if you're using bootcamp. A Mac has better software for photos than what's available for XP. If you still want to use XP, you will still need, and your Pix should transfer like using an SD card This technology, in helping to limit opening and closing the cameras doors and physically moving the SD card itself, is also suppose to extend the life of your camera and help prevent losing your SD card-since it stays in the camera. Finally it also eliminates the need to purchase multiple devices for various memory devices that have different card formats. The firewire maybe include with your camera when you purchased it as must are. Congrats on getting an iMac, you will love it and most professional photographers use them
