Q: i have a serious doubt about tha pins on a RAM i mean, i know that when buying new RAM you need to know of wat family your RAM is either DDR, DDR2, DDR3 but, i found out theres pins to it ? does each family of RAM come with different pins ? because i hear that RAMS have 72 pin 100 pin, 144 pin, 168 pin, 172 pin, 184 pin, etc etc wat does that mean ? do all RAM come with different number of pins ? is tha number of pins what identify DDR from DDR2 and DDR2 from DDR3 ? please get me out of this seriious tremendous doubt -i was born nov.12.1989
A: SDR has 168 pins and two notches. DDR has 184 pins and a single notch. DDR2 has 240 pins and a single notch. DDR3 has 240 pins and a single notch, but the location of the notch differs from DDR2's notch location. Each of those are a type of RAM. SDR is single data rate. DDR is double data rate. DDR2 is the second generation of double data rate. DDR3 is the third generation of double data rate.
