What does CD-R and CD-RW and DVD stand for and how are they used?

Q: I have a computer that can burn CD's or DVD's or one is used for recording music and one for recording videos but I don't know which one so how would I do this? can I put it in and copy a song to a CD?DVD? Movie to CD or DVD and what does write mean? thanks, iom

A: CD-R (compact disc recordable) is for data in general music, files CD-RW (compact disc re-writable) is the same as a CD-R but you can erase the old data and put on different files multiple times DVD (Digital Versitile Disc) usually used to hold on movies, but you can use it to hold other data can hold more data so yeah, you can put anything on discs its just dvd hold more, and cd rw can be re written to tell what your comp can burn just click on my computer and it should say DVD/CD rw Drive or maybe just CD RW Drive
