Can anyone solve the case of the invisible Western Digital (MyBook) 500GB drive?

Q: I wiped my WD500 drive. Long story. The drive HAD resident plug & play software including drivers, manuals etc. Now that's gone and when I plug it, the system (Vista) gives me the you've just plugged in a USB peripheral sound but My Computer doesn't display the drive. Hardware Manager shows it as an unrecognized device and WD Diagnostics which I downloaded from the manufacturers site says that everything is fine. Does anyone know where I could either a)get a driver for a reinstall or b)change a registry that will enable the system to recognize that it's there?

A: plug it in and right click on My Computer icon on your desktop select "Manage" then point to storage->Disk Management, then check out if your drive appears here.. you might see it unallocated unit as it wiped and not formatted. if you can see it you can create a drive and format it to use. also you can try another way by using Acronis Disk Director 10 which is very good partitioning program its like partition magic.
