Windows XP physical memory dumped - how to fix?

Q: Last weekend I used my computer and left it on (not unusual) only to come back later that night to a screen that read "Physical memory has been dumped"...ok...I didn't do anything to the computer...so I restarted and followed the instructions on the screen (start safe mode, etc) I keep doing that and it keeps redirecting me to safe mode...over and over and over. Tried re-installing windows and it failed every time I tried it, saying that one of the files is corrupt. Any clue on what is going on here? Like I said I did nothing out of the ordinary to the computer. Am I going to have to replace the hard drive? Thanks for any suggestions! Epidavros: I'm not anywhere near the computer at this moment and planned on adding the specific commands later, after I get a general idea of what went wrong. ALSO one of the messages said to put the re-install cd in and hit "r"...which I did & it failed every time

A: your corrupted files need to be repaired. Boot the computer using your WinXP disk. When you get to some options, select R for repair. When the computer moves into a black and white screen select your windows install, Usually its #1. Once you have done that type the following command chkdsk /p Let the computer run, it will be fixing corrupted files. When its done take the xp disk out and reboot. If that doesn't fix the problem boot again with your XP disk and select Install. Make sure you do a full format.
