Q: I was in the middle of doing some recording and my laptop kept interrupting me to tell me it has run out of hard disk space which is very frustrating! I have removed as many programs as I can, I have used Disk Cleanup to remove temporary files, and I have deleted as many documents as I can manage. With that in mind, I don't really understand why it doesn't have any space left, I don't have that much on it in the first place! Are there any other ways to clear up space please, and if not, what would be your suggestion? Thanks for your help.
A: Download CCleaner and Defraggler (these are really tiny programs - you can even download them to and run them from a memory stick if you really have no space). Use CCleaner first to remove all your old rubbish that gets left behind from daily use. Also check how much Virtual memory your machine has allocated and check the amount of space used for system restore. Reduce these both a bit if you really need the space. It goes without saying to empty your trash and that includes your virus vault on your anti-virus program. Also try putting some of your files on a cd - things like photos that you don't often use. Of course you can also buy an external harddrive and attach that to store all your files on! Run defraggler after to speed everything up!
