Why doesn't my CD ROM drive not work?

Q: Whenever I put a cd into my :D drive nothing will play, nothing shows up. I went to my device manager and it is installed and it says everything is working perfectly. I put it on autoplay and that has done nothing to solve it. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it because it recognizes the drive, but not the cd's. What's wrong? This happens with all of my cds, they aren't broken. I have a windows 2000 Acually I did go to windows updates earlier and there were 2 updates under hardware for "drivers" and failed every time i tried installing them. I don't know what the problem is there

A: Some CD Rom Drives has to have the software that comes with it. Ether go to the co. that made the drive or windows updates. When you go to Windows Updates click custom, and it will show you if your computer has soft ware or drivers that need to be updated.
