Q: If i was to change motherboard and only the motherboard would i have reinstall xp or anything. My current computer with windows xp is installed and works fine but my current motherboard which is ASUS needs to be replace because it wont boot to bios or make the monitor screen come on. Im going to buy a different brand that is not ASUS , what is there to expect when i swtich motherboards and boot up?
A: You shouldn't have to reinstall XP, but you should boot up in safe mode. The previous mother board drivers were loaded on the last install of XP, so Windows know what drivers are needed for the old mother board. If you boot up with a different manufacture's mother board (or a different model from the same manufacture) the drivers that windows needs, will be different. Replace it and then boot into safe mode. (F8 key while the BIOS is being displayed) then put the driver cd in the cd rom and install what it needs in safe mode. Once it's done, just reboot and let it load as normal. Everything should be good to go.
