Q: I bought a laptop a couple of years ago and it worked great. I used it last year in Korea (240 volts) and it worked fine. When I returned to the USA last week, my computer simply did not power up. Normally I would think it broke down, but the exact same thing happened to our PS3. Could it be that these items now need 240 volts to power up? Or is this just a strange coincidence that they both broke at the same time? I bought both in the USA.
A: You obviously had an power adapter, with you to make the voltage change. T Did you make a setting change? You did not say you took the PS3 with you. If you did not then is surely is a coincidence. I am aware that a desktop has a 120 to 220 switch. I am not sure if the if the power supply in a laptop, I doubt it. Laptops are delicate pieces of equipment. Something is surely wrong. Take it in to a reputable shop and have it checked out.
