Q: I have a PCI card still, it's a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600. Or would I be better off overclocking the processor (pentium IV 2.1Ghz)? I've maxed out my RAM at 1GB and the MMORPGs I play still run slow, trying to get a little more speed out of it. But I don't want to clock it too high and burn it up either. Can someone tell me how to do it and what to set it at?
A: Like I said in your last question, the reason why your computer does not play those games well is because the card is a PCI card. The PCI bus has a data transfer rate of 33mbps. This is a VERY limiting factor in the performance of VIDEO applications such as the VIDEO game you are trying to play. Overclocking is not an option, as you are only overclocking the GPU and NOT THE BUS. Overclocking that card would be like putting a turbo charger in a car that is permanently tethered to a large rock. Sure, the engine would run faster, but it is still going to be as slow as ever.
