Q: I keep getting bsod on my xp desktops start up so Ive download ubuntu on my laptop to use the live cd to access my HDD and move all the files I want to keep to an external hard drive then reinstall xp and move everything back. But when I go to my HDD (HP_PAVILION) it says it mount and gives me this in details $LogFile indicates unclean shutdown (0, 0) Failed to mount '/ dev/sda1': Operation not supported Mount is denied because NTFS is marked to be in use. Choose one action: Choise 1: If you have Windows then disconnect the external devices by clicking on the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon in the Windows taskbar then shutdown Windows cleanly. Choice 2: If you don't have Windows then you can use the 'force' option for your own responsibility. For example type on the command line: mount -t ntfs-3g/dev/sda1/media/HP_PAVILION -o force or add the option to relevant row in the /ect/fstab file: /dev/sda1/media/HP_PAVILION ntfs-3g force 0 0 Does anyone know how I can access my hdd to get my files out? This mite sound very stupid but where is the command line? Is it the part of a file browser where it says Location: then gives me a box to type in? Ive put it in termianl but I just get lots of texts like mount - - make rshared dir and it says a device can be given a name , say /dv/hdal or /dev/dcrom stuff like that how Do I open the drive now?
