Is the price to performance worth it for the GTX 280?

Q: I am debating on whether I should go for the GTX 260 or GTX 280 graphics card. I need some opinions on the price to performance gain and if it is worth to pay an extra $200 for the 280.

A: its pretty much the fastest single gaming card out there. you can beat it running two cards against it but as far as single gaming cards go its the fastest right now. I reckon you'll pay about $150 over the odds of the 260 if you shop carefully. Not sure where you're buying from or what country you are in but I think $200 is overstating the difference. It really depends on what you plan to do with it and how future proof you want to be. You'll get a bit more longevity out of the 280 because it will keep up with game requirements for longer. At the end of the day its probably less then 10 or so fps between the two cards, depending o nwhat youre running and what detail/resolution you're running it at. For some people thats important. Its really a matter of personal choice. With crysis, that sort of difference will be noticeable, with older games it wont matter so much as you'll be pulling over 60fps anyway. the numbers are here, if you're interested http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-gtx-280,1953.html http://www.guru3d.com/category/vga_charts/ http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/nvidia_geforce_gtx_280_260_performance/page10.asp http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2845,2320126,00.asp Video card prices fluctuate - a lot. the only other computer part I can think of that goes through (its stabilised out now) but used to go through as many fluctuations is ram. The price will drop, but if you need a card "now" then its the bees knees.
