Q: Generic 2gb ram - 2GB 800MHz PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory http://www.saverstore.com/productinfo/Product.aspx?product_id=20017661&rstrat=13354 Intel Pentium Dual Core E2200 Socket 775 2.2GHz 800FSB http://www.ebuyer.com/product/139584/show_product_overview Samsung HD753LJ 750GB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm *32MB Cache* - OEM http://www.ebuyer.com/product/139739 Sapphire Technology ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 512MB PCIE Dual DVI TVO http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=4LH8&CategorySelectedId=11137&PageMode=1&NavigationKey=11137,366360000,373340000,50670000 Asus P5N-E SLI 650i Socket 775 PCI-E Onboard Audio ATX Motherboard http://www.ebuyer.com/product/125082/show_product_overview I've already got a keyboard, monitor, mouse, optical drive etc, just wondering how well this would work for a few older games like half life 2, black and white etc as I have a console for more graphically advanced games. Any criticisms or opinions welcome. Cheers. I wont be playing anything like crysis and as long as I can see whats going on onscreen then its fine. This is really a starting point of a computer that I want to upgrade later on when I have more to spend and to build up gradually. What I really want to know is, will there be any problems with this computer, do the components work together, will there be any overheating or noise problems? As long as it will work in it current state I can always add to it later.
A: Asus is VERY picky about RAM. dont get generic to save a little money. get compatible and get a good brand like Kingston, OCZ, or gSkill. http://www.crucial.com/ as a starting rig it looks good, plenty of upgradeability. i would recommend the P5Q PRO by Asus instead of the 650i... EDIT Power supply, dont skimp here or think of upgrading, get a great unit and stick with it for a while. get at least a 500W, go here for good vs. bad... http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195
