Sound card problems?

Q: I have a Creative SB Live! sound card in my system. I'm running Windows XP SP2, with a Pentium 3.0 Ghz and a Geforce 7800 and 2 GB of RAM. The trouble is, every fifth or sixth boot-up, almost at random, when I play anything that requires sound, all I get is a high-pitched whine out of the speakers. When this happens, I open up the device manager and disable the sound card, then re-enable it. This clears up the problem. About half the time. The rest of the time I need to re-boot to clear it for good. Every now and then, when I re-boot, the sound is fine, but only plays on one speaker. It's driving me crazy, any ideas?

A: invest in a different sound card since this one is malfunctioning.
