Q: I'm building a PC and I don't know what to do with the hard drive. I don't really know what the hard drive controller is but I'm pretty sure it comes with motherboards these days. Can anyone confirm this for me and give me an explanation? I think I use it to connect a certain cable from the controller to the hard drive. Is it possible for me to insert disks into my hard drive because I think that it was what I have to do when formatting my hard drive. I am using a SATA 3.0G/s. I don't have an optical drive(that's the DVD or CD drive, right?).
A: Hi AC Don't go crazy with the controller. Plug in your SATA and once you power up, go directly in the Cmos to make sure that the bios supports SATA mode. Simple.....It has nothing to do with Win XP drivers and all that. It is the Bios that have to be SATA ready and not the operating system. Edit.....HD are all pre-formatted unless you want to partition it. You cando that within Win XP or Vista
