My DVD-ROm Drive isn't working....?

Q: It was working PERFECTLY just about an hour ago, I put in a DVD, and it began to work, then my computer froze, so I had to do a hard shutdown, which I don't like doing. I turned my computer back on, and noticed that the DVD wasn't reading, so I opened it and then closed it, still nothing. I went into the Device manager and uninstalled the Drive, and reinstalled it...still nothing, is there a chance that the hard shutdown killed my DVD-ROM's ability to ready DVD's? it still opens and all, but it won't read anything... thanks in advance.

A: something similar has happened to me and what i had to do was physically pull the IDE cable from the drive, boot the PC up without the drive in, and then shut it down ,attach drive again and turn it back on, and on top of that I did a system restore first thing i tried( didnt work but its worth a shot prehaps for you). Also if that doesnt work make sure you have the latest drivers(it may be just a frozen driver for the drive) or maybe even a firmware upgrade if your drive has them Hope this helps
