Q: I am getting a brand spanking new rig. -Its a EVGA nForce 680i SLI Motherboard -2 sticks of OCZ Platinum Revision-2 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Dual Channel Memory (2 x 1024MB) -An XFX Geforce 8600 GT XXX edition with Zalman Fan -Intel Core 2 Duo at 2.40 ghz with its own fan -Western Digital 250 GB hard drive And Windows XP Home Edition OS Disk SP2 First, my motherboard has jacks for speakers and all those things, do I need a sound card or will that work? I have a soundcard already and I am fine with it. Can i replace my old soundcard into my new one? Its a Realtek AC97 Audio Second, my old cd and dvd drives are perfectly ok, but I dont have any cd to install driver, the computer came with them installed already, do I need drivers for them to work? can I get them online, or do I need to buy new drives, or can I copy the drives onto an iPod as a usb of some sort and install? Also, same thing with my sound card, where can i get drivers? Thanks for your help
A: It is sad that EVGA made such a good motherboard with such bad onboard sound. AC97 is just that, top of the line in 1997... Go with your sound card, you should be able to get the drivers from the manufacture's website of your sound card... Do not pay more than $550 for this rig, it is getting rather old for what it is.
